2nd annual Midwest road trip - Leg 1

Last year I boldly wrote that we would do an "annual midwest roadtrip".  Bold....you may ask....that doesn't seem bold.  Oh but it is.  I often think or say "let's do this again soon or next year, etc" and it doesn't seem to happen but the annual Midwest Roadtrip did not only take place once again in 2014, but it was extended to include my older brothers wedding and reception (5 days later), making the total days that the kids and I were away from home 11!  That is a record for us.  And for the most part the kids were awesome for the car rides, new beds, new houses, different menu, different bedtimes, snack times, meal times etc.   Craig came back home to work for a few days in there so he cannot share in the glory of traveling with the kids for 11 days and living to tell about it.  Maybe next year on our 3rd Annual Roadtrip.

First stop....once again Sioux Falls to see my friend Annie and her family.  Our girls had playdates before they could sit.  Literally.  They are a month apart in age and were best friends when we lived in Iowa.  Here are some pictures of our 2 year old girls:

Now seven and still inseparable when we get together.  We arrived around 11:15 a.m. Wednesday, July 2nd and I barely saw either of these two until we left the next day at 12:00 p.m.

Sioux Falls was great.  Annie took us to Falls park which is always a hit with all the great rocks for climbing and pretending, etc.

A picture of all our kids....it is a little different now from when we had just our infant girls rolling around on the floor.  A little less time to talk and a little more time roving around making sure all the boys are not getting into things or going somewhere they shouldn't.

Next up:  A trolley ride around downtown....after patiently waiting for a bit for it to come

And a picture of us moms!! So rare do we take pictures of just the two of us.  I thought of it right before we left.  Annie is such a dear friend, we kind of learned to be moms at the same time.  We met when our girls were 6 months/7 months old so we have been through teething, eating solids, toilet training, temper tantrums, sleeping through the night, adding siblings, signing up for lessons,  moving, etc together.  We have been through times when our friendship was easy and been through times when we had talk a few things out.  She is definitely what I call a forever friend and when we get together it is just like we pick the conversation up where we left off.  It is never easy to leave, our girls especially get sad, but I think (and hope) we will keep in contact through the years.

Next stop:  Nebraska:  Home of Corn, Huskers, and a Lake....year round campsite for Craig's parents!
